Booton Common

Overview

Booton Common is an 8‑hectare Norfolk Wildlife Trust reserve set in a tranquil tributary valley of the River Wensum near Reepham. This small but biodiverse landscape blends rich fen, wet heathland, alder woodland, and floristically rich wet hollows, supporting unusual plants such as adder’s‑tongue, marsh helleborine, and grass‑of‑Parnassus. Its circular trail offers a peaceful walk through wet meadows and ancient‑woodland‑associated flora, with grazing ponies helping maintain the habitat. Recognised as both an SSSI and Special Area of Conservation, Booton Common preserves a rare fragment of Norfolk’s historic wet meadow ecosystems.
