Buxton Heath

Overview

Buxton Heath is a beautifully restored 67‑hectare heathland reserve north of Norwich, celebrated for its rare dry, acidic heath and rich valley mire habitat. Managed in partnership with Norfolk Wildlife Trust, it bursts into colour each summer with vibrant purple heather and supports notable species such as the silver‑studded blue butterfly, nightjar, woodlark, and keeled skimmer dragonfly. Its sandy paths and open landscapes offer rewarding walks, wildlife watching, and a glimpse into one of Norfolk’s most threatened yet thriving natural environments. Open year‑round, it remains one of the county’s finest examples of heathland conservation.
